WHY MATERIALS MATTER

Natural materials are at the very core of our DNA.

We believe the materials we build with shape the way a building feels, functions and ages — and ultimately what happens to it when it is no longer needed.

We work exclusively with bio-based and recyclable materials, choosing them for their natural qualities, performance and beauty.

For us, material choice is not a compromise. It is an opportunity to create better architecture.

MATERIAL LIBRARY

250+ MATERIALS

Since we established our studio, we have built a growing material library of more than 250bio-based and recycled materials.

We collect, test and study materials to understand how they behave — from raw material and construction to detail and finished surface.

It is a working library, constantly evolving through our projects, research and experiments.

MATERIALS IN PRACTICE

Materials and architecture inform each other.

We explore materials alongside the design process, considering the qualities, limitations and possibilities of each material together with what the building needs to do and the conditions of its site.

These conditions shape our choices, while the materials themselves open up new architectural possibilities.

What we learn through one project becomes part of the next.

MATERIAL KNOWLEDGE

We stay close to the evolving world of bio-based materials.

Our expertise comes from staying closely connected to the field — through our projects, research collaborations and relationships with material producers.

We are often part of early conversations around new materials and developments, bringing an architectural perspective to the discussion.

Our relationships with producers give us access to knowledge, new developments and materials at an early stage — while our material choices remain independent. We work with what is right for the architecture, the project and its context, rather than being tied to particular manufacturers.

This constant exchange keeps our knowledge moving — from research to practice, from materials to buildings, and back again.
